Medi-Cal Waiver FAQs

What are Medi-Cal Waivers?

1

Medi-Cal waivers allow California to modify certain federal Medicaid requirements so the state can provide specialized services to specific populations. These programs help eligible individuals receive home and community-based services instead of institutional care.

Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Waivers

HCBS waivers provide care and support for people who meet the level of care required for a nursing facility or similar institution. Services are delivered in a person’s home or community and are based on an individualized care plan.
